Morphological features and formation conditions of The Almopia Speleopark caves (Loutra Almopias, N. Greece)

The Almopia Speleopark caves are located at the basin in northern Greece, foothill of Voras Mountain, and formed Maestrichtian limestones Pelagonian zone. They studied on basis their meso- micro-scale morphology as well horizontal pattern, order to investigate character forming aquifer. Emphasis is given morphological description Loutra Almopias Cave. Cave dominated by presence cupolas, rock bridges, ridges “windows”, abrupt terminations fracture guided passages, pendants, rising channels, pseudonotches, false-floors spongework. Speleogens indicate a speleogenesis due slowly natural convecting hot water bodies. Phreatic calcite from Varathron analyzed fluid inclusions physicochemical conditions This has shown that was temperatures ranging between 120 189 ºC, with peak around 150 ºC. fluids were NaCl very low salinities (0.2-1.0 wt% equiv.), showing probably incorporation meteoric waters.
